The eyes are the most important organ in interpersonal face-to-face communication. It is the region that is paid the most attention and observed during speech. For this reason, our gaze is very important in how we are perceived and what we try to express. With our eyes, we tell whether we are selfconfident, knowledgeable, interested, and the degree of importance we give to the person in front of us. We convey our feelings more realistically with our eyes than with our words. Since our eyelids shape our gaze, they are important in terms of the perception we create on the opposite side.

The upper eyelid is the organ that starts from under the eyebrow and extends to the eye opening. The upper eyelid is not just a skin cover, it has very important functions. Its most important task is to maintain the continuity of visual function by protecting the cornea layer in the eye. Important muscles contribute to the blinking function of the upper eyelid. Problems in these muscles or their connections can seriously affect eyelid functions. In normal vision, the upper eyelid is expected to cover the eye 2-3 mm below the upper border of the colored part of the eye. Our upper eyelid being higher can cause us to be perceived as angry and confused. Our upper eyelid has a line where the skin folds as it opens and closes. If this line is too far behind, it can cause you to look old, and if it is too far ahead, it can cause an Asian appearance.

With age, loosening and sagging of our upper eyelid skin is observed. This excess skin begins to pile up on the upper eyelid, restricting the movement function of the eyelid. In order to keep the eyes open comfortably, the inner parts of the eyebrows are lifted up and the skin on the eyelids is tried to be reduced involuntarily. Clumping in the upper eyelid can make the person feel tired and sleepy. In addition, due to the loosening of the tissues with age, the fat pads under the eyebrows herniate outward and cause a full and tired appearance. Over time, the outer parts of the eyebrows also shift downwards, contributing to skin clumps that can extend up to the eyelashes. As a result of all this, a tired, sleepy, old, sad and somewhat confused appearance emerges.

It is important to position the eyebrows before the upper eyelid is intervened. If an eyebrow lift is applied after upper eyelid aesthetics, skin insufficiency may occur on the lid and the risk of keeping the eye open may occur. After upper eyelid aesthetics, the need for the middle parts of the eyebrow to help the eyelid will be eliminated and the inner part of the eyebrows will shift downwards. For this reason, the wrinkled appearance on the forehead will also decrease a little.

If the position of the upper eyelid is positioned more than 2-3 mm below the colored part of the eye, it is called drooping of the upper eyelid. Upper eyelid droop can be corrected during aesthetic intervention. However, a slightly droopy eyelid may not require intervention. Türkan Şoray owes her “dreamy gaze” to her large lively eyes, shapely eyebrows and slightly droopy upper eyelids.

What is Upper Eyelid Aesthetics?

Upper eyelid aesthetics defines the process of repositioning, correcting and reducing if necessary, the structures belonging to the eyelid or affecting the appearance / function of the eyelid by entering the fold in the upper eyelid.

To Whom Is Upper Eyelid Aesthetics Applied?

The fullness of the upper eyelid may occur due to congenital, thyroid disorders, kidney disorders, heart disorders, blepharochalasis, which is often seen in young women, due to edema of unknown cause and due to changes in age. Before upper eyelid aesthetics, it is important to reveal the situation that causes the complaints and to receive treatment for the aforementioned diseases if necessary.

Upper eyelid aesthetics can be applied to individuals over the age of 18 who can receive local or general anesthesia and who wish to have a healthy, younger, healthy, dynamic and impressive gaze.

How is Upper Eyelid Aesthetics Performed?

Upper eyelid aesthetics includes removal of excess skin by incision from the fold of the upper eyelid, correction of the position of the muscle, reduction or repositioning of herniated fat pads, and hanging the sebaceous gland upwards if necessary. Sometimes the incision may need to be extended beyond the outer part of the eye. Although the scars formed after the surgery are permanent, they are not usually visible because the eyelid is a non-tensioned area, has good blood supply and is hidden in the anatomical fold.

The most commonly performed operations with the upper eyelid are brow lift and lower eyelid aesthetics. The eyebrows can be slightly lifted from the incision made for upper eyelid aesthetics. A separate incision is required for lower eyelid aesthetics.

Since the eye area is a sensitive organ, it is very prone to the development of edema and bruising. After the upper eyelid aesthetic, bruising and swelling are seen and it is expected to regress by moving downwards in about 10 days. If upper eyelid aesthetics is combined with lower eyelid aesthetics or eyebrow lift, the healing process may be prolonged, as the tissue area that has undergone surgical trauma will expand and recovery of lymph circulation will take time.

Although upper eyelid aesthetics is usually performed under local anesthesia, it may need to be performed under sedation or general anesthesia if it is to be combined with other aesthetic procedures..
